This is the first magazine i came across and took a liking too as part of my magazine cover research. Although it is not a music magazine it is a very heavy INDIE style magazine. As i also want my magazine to reflect INDIE style as well as music i looked at INDIE fashion magazines also. I particularly like the images and the way they portray the INDIE 'look' and 'style' very well.

I definitely want to use this kind of image for my magazine as i really like the way it's centre of the page and the main focus. It's really effective the way straight away this magazine lets you know what kind of style it is. This front cover is very heavily styled, and by having such a strong image on the front it really shows the audience what it's all about straight away.
Although I've noticed this magazine doesn't really follow the normal codes of conventions so i therefore need to research further into music magazines and take into account there layout as well.

I like the way this NME magazine has only a few different colours, they are also very similar and go together well. This is easier on the eye for audiences, if there were multiple colours on the front, it may clash and not make the magazine very attractive. This therefore draws the audience in more if the cover is nice on the eyes to look at. I've noticed this is the same with most magazines so must therefore decide on a few similar colours myself for my colour scheme.
I've also noticed The title of the magazine is a much bolder colour which makes it stand out above the rest of the cover.
My favourite thing about this cover is that the picture is so large. I definitely want my cover to have one large image across the hole cover as i believe it means the audience member will not be concentrating on looking at different pictures but will be looking at the headings and what is involved within the magazine. I also feel this cover looks a bit jam packed so is therefore a bit less pleasing to the eye. It looks as if there is a lot to read which will have a negative effect on the audience as it may put a few people off purchasing the magazine, if there is too much to read.

I particually like way the backgound is so plain on this cover. It allows the image to stand out and makes the colours of the 'Q' logo and the other headings bolder and makes them much more visible to the audience. I've again noticed this magazine follows the codes of conventions when it comes to layout as they have a logo, a strip across the bottom and many other little headings around the perimiter of the page. This means audience members won't be scared of the magazine as it's simialr to others. I also feel this magazine cover isnt too jam packed like the NME one but has alot more on it than the INDIE magazine cover. I therefore want to make my final cover more like this one. Otherwise i feel if it's too full it looks too clutered and i think i would loose interest if i found there was too much to read. However i don't want to have as little as the INDIE magazine on the front cover as it doesnt really follow the normal codes of conventions and doesnt let you know enough about whats involved within the magazine.

Double Page Spread

Most double page spreads, have a particually large picture. Most take up half, if not more of the double page spread. This gives the impression that there is not much writting on the page, therefore readers will not be scared away from the page if they think there is a lot to read. There is again a colour theme, this time blue, which highlights all the important parts, which makes them easier for the readers to find.

This double page spread also has a large picture but also has a large title. This title is in fact a quote from the star on the page Lily Allen. This draws the audience in, who want to know more about Lily Allen. They see that this quote has shown the real side of Lily Allen so therefore encourages them to read on more. I'm defiantly going to use a quote like this on my double page spread.

Contents Page

This contents page consists of different sections. Features, Review, Every Month and a picture. This makes the page very organised and easily to navigate around. This is quite a light hearted page, where people just want to find out whats in the magazine. Therefore again the picture is quite large, and the only writing is useful information about the magazine.
